10 Books I Should Have Read (But Haven't).
There are a lot of books out there, and people have opinions on all of them. Some are "must read" and some pass the masses by. This is a list of books that have, so far, passed me by, despite their popularity. Some of them I'll read eventually, some of them I'm never going to bother with.
Confession time - I've never read anything by Margaret Atwood. No good reason, I just never came across them. The Handmaid's Tale is widely taught in UK schools, but I was too old to have read it at school, and it came out at a time when I wasn't reading much.
Despite this being one of the first books I downloaded for my Kindle when I first got it, I've never read it. I've never read Dracula either, despite being quite a vampire fan for a lot of years.
Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom. Haven't read them. Or the Grisha Trilogy. Apart from the fact that there's serious hype, and their titles, I know nothing about them.
I have no interest whatsoever in Holden Caulfield. The blurb brings one word to mind, and that is "wanky".
I started reading this once, when the whole trilogy was out in English and everyone was reading it, but it was just so boring. I couldn't get past the first 50 pages. Seriously, I just do not see the attraction to this one.
I'm not quite sure why I've never read this one, I certainly want to, I've just never gotten around to it. Although I'm not sure about the whole wife in the attic thing.
This is another one I own but haven't read. It's a favourite of everyone I know who's read it, but there's just something holding me back. Maybe the whole WW2 thing. I will get to it, eventually. Then you can all tell me, "I told you so"
I really like the sound of this one, which was suggested by Shivaun Plozza when I asked on twitter (she also says everyone should read her book, Frankie, which I totally agree with). A girl has to live in the town where her identical twin took a gun to school and started shooting. I definitely need to move this one up my TBR.
A modern classic by Nobel Prize winner Toni Morrison, this is one that definitely needs to be on my to read list, but I haven't managed to get to it yet.
This is very much the book of the moment, and I have a copy and will get to it very soon, I just haven't yet. I've only seen 4 and 5 star reviews, so I'm looking forward to it.
What are your must read books? Anything you think I should definitely read? Leave me a comment and let me know!

I've read them all but the last three on your list and the Six of Crows series, although I did read her Grisha series and loved it. The Handmaid's Tale is my fav on your list. Read it. It is impossibly terrifying.

I'm definitely going to at some point. Given the current political situation I think I need to read it sooner rather than later.

I've only read Frankenstein and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Dragon Tattoo was VERY difficult to get into, so I can't fault you for stopping on that one. Frankenstein was a required book for me in school.
ReplyDeleteA must read for me would have to be The Road by Cormac McCarthy!
I haven't read it, I've been told it's incredibly depressing.

The Hate U Give and The Book Thief are EXCELLENT! I shall flail about them forever.😂 I haven't read a ton of the others though haha...like the Handmaiden's Tale or Catcher in the Rye or The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Oops. So many books, so little time!! <-- such a cliche but still painfully true😂
ReplyDeleteIt's absolutely true, and truer for me than for you! ;)
